Two winners of 24 Hours in the Canyon will receive a paid entry to one of two ultra races.

The overall road bike winner will have the opportunity to qualify for solo Race Across America at The Texas Time Trials (www.tt24tt.com) in September.  The overall mountain bike winner will be off to Colorado Springs to race in the 24 Hour Mountain Bike National Championships (www.24hoursofcos.com).

Even though 24 Hours in the Canyon doesn’t officially start until noon on Saturday, you will want to make sure to be inside Palo Duro Canyon in time for this year’s Hill Climb Challenge.  Thanks to Southwest Institute for Sports & Health, we will once again be sending those willing to take on THE HILL off at 10:00 pm on Friday, June 1. 

This challenge is free for any registered participant in 24 Hours in the Canyon and $20 for anyone not registered.  The first male and female finisher in each category will win a $100 cash prize.  We will send off the geared mountain bikes first, followed by the single speed mountain bikes, and the road bikes last.  You must have a headlight and taillight to participate in this challenge.

Don’t want to take on the hill?  Then you will definitely want to claim your spot on the climb and cheer on these tough comptitiors.  What an exciting way to kick-off this amazing weekend!

If you missed last year’s kids race, you missed one of the most exciting hours of the weekend!  This year’s kids race is presented by McDonalds and is a must see event.  Thanks to the Hard Hats for Little Heads program, the Texas Medical Association, and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, we will once again be providing helmets to any child who doesn’t have one.  There is no cost for participation in this event, and all participants will receive a trophy.  Parents may sign up their child(ren) at packet pickup or just prior to the start of the event.  The kids race will start at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 2 in Juniper Day Use Area.  For information on the routes that the kids will be riding, click on the routes section on our website.
