Fundraising Tips & Ideas

Fundraising may be scary to you & seem difficult.  We’ve put together a list of ideas to help you out.  Many of these are tried and true ideas that you’ve heard of before as well as maybe some new ones.

1. Take a look at the fundraising incentives for this year which can be found here —

2. Set a goal

3. Customize your online fundraising page you set up when you registered.  You can even send out emails & social media requests from this page.

4. Make a list of people you are going to ask

  • Suggestions of who to ask:
  • Doctor
  • Chiropractor
  • Dentist
  • Hair Stylist
  • Family Members
  • Insurance Agent
  • Orthodontist
  • Neighbors
  • Lawyer
  • Boss
  • The people you bought popcorn, cookie dough, or cookies from

5. Do not be afraid to ask.  You don’t ask, you don’t get

6. Mailing Campaign

7. Change the signature line in your emails to include a link to your online fundraising page to give your recipients the opportunity to donate.   Example might be “I’m riding 24 Hours in the Canyon to help cancer patients.  Will you join me in the fight?”

8. See if your workplace will let you raffle off a prime parking space for a month.  Sell raffle tickets & hold a drawing.

9. Does your workplace allow a jean or dress down day?  It’s amazing how many people will pay $5.00 to get to wear jeans or go casual.

10. Speak to your supervisor about the possibility of doing a raffle for a day off from work.

11. How many hours do you plan on riding at 24 Hours?  Get sponsors for each hour.

12. Have a pool at the office to guess the total number of miles you ride during the event.  The person who guesses the closest without going over wins a percentage of the pool.  Who knows, they may even donate their percentage back to you.

13. Does your company have a newsletter?  See if they will allow you to put a request for donations or publicize your other fundraising idea in order to get the word out.

14. Create a YouTube video of why you are riding in 24 Hours, who you are riding in honor or memory of, & why someone should donate to the cause.  Get creative & send the link to EVERYONE.

15. Change the voicemail on your phone to mention your raising money to help cancer patients by participating in 24 Hours in the Canyon, & how they can make a donation.  All the more reason to keep ignoring phone calls!

16. Do you know someone who has box/season tickets to a local sports team?  See if they will donate a game for you to raffle off.

17. Have a garage sale with all of your unwanted stuff & donate a portion.

18. Are you a great cook?  Invite your friends over for an amazing meal.  Let them know that they do not need to bring anything, but instead, donate to help you reach your goal.

19. Follow-up with people.  It is not uncommon for someone to forget that they said they would give money or forget that they received your request.

20. Remember “Penny Day” at school or Vacation Bible School?  Why not host a Penny Day at work?  If you receive a certain amount of pennies, maybe you could spring for soft drinks.

21. Do a gift basket auction.  Collect donations from local businesses, package them together in a basket , & either do a silent auction/raffle for the basket(s)

22. Ask a local jeweler if they buy gold jewelry?  Ask co-workers, friends, & family members for their broken necklaces &/or jewelry they don’t wear.  Ask them for a percentage of the sale after you sell it to the jeweler.

23. What if you asked your Facebook friends to donate a dollar?  Even if only half of them did it, it’s more money than you started with.

24. Throw your leftover change each day in a jar.  Then take it to the bank  It adds up quickly

25. Host a “No Go Event”.  Invite friends to make a donation to your “event” in order to not have to go to one more party or evening function.  Face it, we’re all busy people and not having to go to one more event would be a blessing.
