WHY 24 HOURS?

In 2005, I was prematurely diagnosed with lymphoma. Through countless tests and many sleepless nights, thankfully it was diagnosed as spleen tissue from a previous injury. However, this tissue does have the propensity to turn into malignant lymphoma. Since that day, I have devoted myself to helping people with cancer.

Each year, an estimated 1050 residents of Potter and Randall counties are diagnosed with some form of cancer. Along with all of the newly diagnosed, an estimated 450 residents will lose their life annually to cancer. Many of these “numbers” are our friends, neighbors, or family members. This is what 24 Hours in the Canyon is all about.

Last year’s event was attended by 150 participants and hundreds of friends and family members. As a result, we were able to raise $14,400. Of this, $13,000 (90%) was donated to The Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center and $1,400 (10%) to The Lance Armstrong Foundation. All of this money was designated to help patients and not to be used for administrative costs.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
